Stories in Ink by Jens Brasier
original exhibition at three hares gallery, the cowper and newton museum
Inspired by the natural world and fairytales, Stories in Ink is a collection of work saturated with colour and detail.
Through this collection of illustrations you can explore cafes, post offices and patisseries in a bustling woodland world, populated by some of Britain’s most enigmatic wildlife. If you look carefully you can see fragments of Olney and the surrounding villages in her work, but this time inhabited solely by British wildlife in a reimagined world.
All works are painted in highly pigmented Indian inks, creating jewel tone pieces on arches papers.

Based on the street corner the artist used to pass whilst living in Tokyo, where a gentleman ran a vegetable stand. There were always more cats than anything else, hiding in the produce, and he chain smoked all day. Steam from the bath house billowed down the street as bicycles whisked past, as an English lady and a Japanese gentleman taught each other vegetable names in their own languages.
